Every STR Host Has a Story
A guest trashes your property, throws an unauthorized party, or checks in with twice as many people as they booked for. You file a claim, leave a review, and move on. But the guest? They just book another property down the street and do it again.
Right now, there is no way for hosts to warn each other. Property damage, fraudulent bookings, noise complaints, stolen items, unauthorized guests — hosts are left completely in the dark about a guest's history at other properties.
Platforms don't share this information between hosts. Negative reviews get removed or buried. There is no accountability for repeat offenders, and hosts pay the price every time.
STR Blacklist exists to change that. We give verified hosts a private, shared database of guest experiences so the next host isn't blindsided by a guest who already has a track record of problems.
How It Works
From application to your first search, the entire process takes minutes — not days. Here is exactly what to expect.
Apply for Access
Submit your active listing URLs from Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, or any other platform. This is how we verify that every member is a real, active short-term rental host — not a guest trying to see what's been written about them.
Get Verified
Our team reviews your listings to confirm they are real and active. We then send a verification code to the contact method on your listing. Once verified, you get full access to the community.
Search Before You Accept
Before accepting a booking request, search our database by guest name, phone number, or email address. See if other hosts have reported issues with that guest — property damage, unauthorized parties, fraud, or other problems. Make an informed decision before handing over your keys.
Report Bad Experiences
After a problematic stay, file a detailed report describing what happened. Include the guest's booking platform, dates, category of issue, and a factual account. Your report warns the next host and builds the community's shared knowledge base.
What We Are — and What We Are Not
What We Are
- ✓A private community of verified short-term rental hosts sharing factual experiences with guests.
- ✓A tool that helps hosts make more informed booking decisions based on a guest's documented history across multiple properties.
- ✓A user-generated content platform where hosts are solely responsible for the accuracy of their own reports, following the same legal model as Yelp, Glassdoor, and similar review platforms (Section 230).
What We Are Not
- ✗Not a public shaming site. Reports are only visible to verified hosts behind our authentication wall. No guest data is ever exposed to the public internet.
- ✗Not a platform that verifies the accuracy of individual reports. We provide the tools; hosts provide the content and bear responsibility for what they write.
- ✗Guests are never named publicly. Their personal information stays within the verified community and is never shared externally, sold, or made available to anyone who has not been verified as an active host.
Trust and Safety
We take the integrity of this community seriously. Every layer of the platform is designed to protect both hosts and the guests they report on.
Every Member Is a Verified Host
We check real, active listing URLs before granting access. You cannot join by simply creating an account. Every member has proven they manage at least one short-term rental property.
AI-Assisted Moderation
Incoming reports are analyzed for severity and automatically categorized by issue type — property damage, unauthorized guests, noise, fraud, and more. This helps surface the most critical reports and keeps the database organized.
Privacy First
Guest phone numbers and email addresses are hashed before storage. We never store sensitive guest contact information in plaintext. Searches match against hashes, so the raw data is never sitting in a database waiting to be leaked.
Community-Driven Quality
Verified hosts can react to and comment on reports, helping surface the most relevant and corroborated information. Multiple reports on the same guest from different hosts strengthen the signal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this legal?
Yes. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act protects platforms that host user-generated content. STR Blacklist follows the same legal model as Yelp, Glassdoor, TripAdvisor, and other review platforms. We provide the platform; hosts provide the content and are responsible for what they write.
Who can see the reports?
Only verified short-term rental hosts. The database is not public. You must apply, submit your listing URLs, and pass our verification process before you can search or view any guest reports.
What platforms do you support?
Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, direct bookings, and others. If you manage a short-term rental on any platform, you are eligible to apply. When filing a report, you can specify which platform the booking came through.
How do I report a guest?
After verification, use the "New Report" form to describe what happened. Include the guest's name, the booking platform, dates of stay, category of issue, and a factual account of the experience. You can optionally include the guest's phone number or email to help other hosts match them.
Can guests see what has been written about them?
No. All report data is behind the verification wall. Guests cannot create accounts, and no guest information is exposed on any public-facing page. The landing page and application form contain no guest data whatsoever.
